Options for Formative Classroom Assessments

During this two-hour workshop, we will explore practical classroom assessment tools that target the three modes of communication: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational and learn practical ways student performances on those assessments can be evaluated. Teachers will work in groups to adapt a variety of classroom assessment tools and tasks and discuss their use for their classrooms.

This is the first of two workshops about assessment offered this spring. The two workshops are intended to provide an overview of formative assessment and end of year performance assessments tools. Focus of the first session is on formative assessments and their use to assess and support interpersonal, interpretive and presentational communication. Session two will focus on planning for and adapting end of year performance assessments.

This workshop will be presented by Ursula Lentz, coordinator for Minnesota Language Proficiency Assessments at the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) at the University of Minnesota. Ms. Lentz holds an MA in Germanic Studies - Teaching and has extensive experience teaching in all levels in schools across Minnesota.
