Chinese Phonetic System and Mandarin Pronunciation

This workshop will introduce participants to the different Chinese phonetic systems that have been used in China and in the West. First, participants will learn the history of Chinese language development and the history of Chinese translation, including the Zhiying, Fanqie, Zhuyin and Pinyin systems. Next, participants will learn modern Mandarin pronunciation standards, including 儿话 (erhua) & 轻声 (qingsheng), with opportunities to practice and discuss how these pronunciation standards can enhance teaching and learning. This workshop is taught by Dr. Yu Wang, Assistant Director of the Confucius Institute.
