Logistical Information

Accommodation and Travel Stipends for Non-Twin Cities Metro Participants
The Confucius Institute has reserved rooms in Yudof Hall for nine nights (check-in Sunday June 18, check-out Tuesday June 27) for pre-approved STARTALK TACCLA participants. The dorm rooms are provided free-of-charge for participants within the designated period. Participants who need accommodation before or after the STARTALK program are encouraged to find their own lodging.

Limited numbers of travel stipends of up to $400 are awarded to participants coming from out of the Twin Cities, with preference given to participants coming from out of Minnesota. Participants who are awarded a travel stipend will receive a notification via e-mail and will need to present airfare and/or mileage receipts to receive the stipend. Travel stipends are awarded via check sent to participants’ address after successful completion of the program.

Meals and Refreshments During STARTALK TACCLA
STARTALK TACCLA provides participants with a continental breakfast and light snack in the afternoon. Participants are encouraged to explore the campus area for their lunch and dinner. Click here for a list of restaurants near-by.

Access to E-mail and Computer Labs
Free guest wireless access is available for much of the campus.  It offers no encryption and is limited in bandwidth and capacity. Participants staying at the dorm are provided with secure wireless login.

What to Wear
Dress at the institute is casual. Because the weather is hard to predict and the air conditioning can be hard to regulate, we give you this word of Minnesota advice: bring a sweater and dress in layers!

Fun Things to Do Around the Twin Cities
We encourage all participants to explore the Twin Cities during their free time. Please visit the Campus Visitor's Guide for more information.

Special Needs
Those with special needs must contact the Confucius Institute one month prior to the start of the conference to allow time to make needed arrangements (confucius@umn.edu or 612-625-5080).
