2010 Chinese Bridge for American Schools

2010 delegation

In December 2010, the Chinese Bridge for American Schools delegation included 22 participants from Eastern Carver County Schools and St. Michael-Albertville Schools as well as many districts with Confucius Classroom funding including Battle Lake School District, Fergus Falls School District, Hopkins Public Schools, Minnetonka Public Schools, Rochester Public Schools, South Washington County Schools, and Yinghua Academy.

The University of Minnesota coordinated this group of K-12 principals, school administrators, and teachers to travel to China to participate the Hanban-sponsored Chinese Bridge for American Schools. This program introduced U.S. educators to China’s education system and encouraged and supported the development of school-to-school partnerships. Minnesota educators learned about China’s education system from lectures by scholars in the field and through site visits to several schools. During the trip, U.S. educators had the chance to tour school facilities and meet principals, teachers, and students. They also had the opportunity to see some of China’s greatest attractions, like the Great Wall.

It was so enjoyable to see and talk to the students in China. I believe even more, today, that we need to help connect our students with students from China to develop relationships in order to learn from each other. The world is truly flat.  – Jim Bach, Chaska Middle School East Principal
