Minnesota Chinese Language Teachers Meeting

October 15, 2009

More than 60 Chinese teachers attended the annual Minnesota Chinese teachers meeting, hosted by the Confucius Institute on October 15, 2009 at the University International Center. During the three-hour meeting, the Confucius Institute introduced several new opportunities for teachers, including a new scholarship for Chinese language teachers seeking licensure in Minnesota and a mentorship program for new Chinese teachers. The Confucius Institute also reported on our first year participating in the Hanban’s Chinese Bridge Summer Camp program for high school students, and the Confucius Institute’s first STARTALK teacher training program. After these and several other announcements, the group broke into small groups to discuss topics relevant to their teaching environment, including ways to manage classroom behavior, how to integrate cultural lessons into language learning, and a review of favorite textbooks. The groups then came back together to report on their discussions. The Confucius Institute Resource Center stayed open for teachers to browse our expanded selection and continue conversations with their colleagues.
