Hosted by the Confucius Institute at the University of Minnesota

Join the Confucius Institute for the 5th annual Minnesota Chinese Language Administrator's Conference. Network with colleagues, learn about new resources available to you and your school through the Confucius Institute, and join us for a keynote lecture with Ms. Robin Harvey from New York University.

About the Conference
The Confucius Institute at the University of Minnesota's Administrators Conference offers insight into the world of K-12 Mandarin Chinese language program administration for educators interested in starting or developing Mandarin language programs at the school or district level.

This year's conference will feature guest speaker Ms. Robin Harvey, Master Teacher of Foreign Language/TESOL/Bilingual Education in the Multilingual/Multicultural Studies Program of New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development.

Additionally, Confucius Institute and Minnesota Department of Education staff will be on hand to offer support for existing Chinese language programs and those interested in implementing new programs in Minnesota.

Keynote Description:
Chinese is often viewed as more culturally distant and difficult than other languages by parents, students, administrators and other faculty members. This presentation focuses on approaches to integrating world language programs so that Chinese is viewed as "just another language." The unique demands of a Chinese language program, additional supports Chinese teachers may need, and resources for Chinese language programs will be addressed. Pathways to collaboration among administration and teachers of all languages, as well as strategies to help school faculty and parents address the language and culture gap will also be discussed.
