Highlights from the Summer 2017 Shanghai Program

Pre-Departure Orientation, June 21-22, 2017

This is the third year that the Confucius Institute at the University of Minnesota will be implementing a summer NSLI-Y program. This year’s Shanghai group comprises 25 students from 18 states across the U.S. We have students coming from as close as Illinois and as far was Hawaii! Before departing to Shanghai for their 6-week summer intensive Mandarin language program, NSLI-Y participants arrived to the University of Minnesota on June 21 for a pre-departure orientation. The orientation took place on June 22 and provided participants an opportunity to get to know one another, meet program staff, reflect on language and program goals, review NSLI-Y program expectations, and discuss health and safety abroad. The orientation day ended with dinner at a local Chinese restaurant.

Additional guest speakers this year included:

American Councils logo    Department of State logo

The NSLI-Y program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
