National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y)

Highlights from the Summer 2016 Shanghai Program

Pre-Departure Orientation, June 24, 2016

This year our NSLI-Y Shanghai group comprised of 25 students from 14 states all across the U.S. Our students are selected from a competitive pool of about 3,900 applicants nation wide. In total, 600 students are selected as finalist for all 7 NSLI-Y language programs.
Before departing to Shanghai, NSLI-Y participants arrived to the University of Minnesota on June 23 for a pre-departure orientation. The orientation on June 24 provided participants an opportunity to get to know one another and program staff, reflect on language and program goals, review NSLI-Y program expectations, and discuss health and safety abroad.
