Confucius Institute Hosts Annual Chinese Teacher's New Year Celebration

On January 24, 2014 the Confucius Institute at the University of Minnesota hosted its annual Chinese New Year celebration for Chinese language teachers. More than 30 teachers attended to help ring in the Year of the Horse on the University of Minnesota campus.

Participants included teachers from several Minnesota K-12 schools as well as faculty from the University of Minnesota and three visiting teachers from China currently teaching in Minnesota schools. Confucius Institute Executive Director Joan Brzezinski welcomed the teachers; extending New Year greetings and a thank you to teachers for the work they have done teaching and promoting Chinese language and culture.

The Confucius Institute coordinated traditional Chinese food and games for entertainment. The games tested the knowledge of attendees in the areas of traditional and contemporary Chinese language and culture. In addition, Chinese language teachers were given the opportunity to share the work of their students and their own talents. One teacher demonstrated her calligraphy skills while another showcased her expert paper-cutting techniques.
