Confucius Institute Day was celebrated worldwide on September 27, 2014 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute, an organization dedicated to promoting Chinese language and culture. Over the last 10 years, more than 440 Confucius Institutes were established around the world, including one at the University of Minnesota in 2008.
Attractions at the 2014 Confucius Day Celebration at the University of Minnesota included giant outdoor Chinese calligraphy at McNamara Alumni Center Gateway Plaza, introductory language lessons, and remarks from the Chinese Consul General from Chicago at the University International Center. Guests in attendance also enjoyed refreshments and took home commemorative t-shirts and temporary tattoos.
