The Confucius Institute celebrated the Year of the Snake with 50 Minnesota language teachers from across the state on February 15, the sixth day of the traditional Chinese New Year’s fortnight-long celebration. Aside from the K-12 Chinese language teachers, attendees included Chinese professor from the University of Minnesota’s College of Liberal Arts Dr. Ling Wang, World Languages Coordinator from Minnesota Department of Education Ursula Lentz, and long-time supporter of Confucius Institute and China Center Jennie Hsiao.
Joan Brzezinski, Confucius Institute executive director, welcomed guests and applauded their contribution to the development of Minnesota’s K-12 Chinese education. Since its establishment in 2008, CIUMN has held five Chinese language Teachers’ New Year party. Guests enjoyed delicious Chinese food, interactive Chinese language and culture games, and received various cultural artifacts as gifts.
