Annual HSK Testing

From May 14 to May 17, 2013, the Confucius Institute held annual HSK testing sessions for Orono High School, Westonka High School, Excelsior Elementary and Scenic Heights Elementary. More than 100 students participated in this series of the HSK tests, which involved four bands. The HSK is a standardized international Chinese proficiency test for non-native speakers.

The CIUMN has been holding the HSK since 2008. From 2008 to 2011, the HSK was offered mainly to adults of local communities, and only 28 K-12 students participated. However, the number quadrupled in 2012 as 108 K-12 students took the test. We continue to see an increase in the number of test-takers in 2013. The CIUMN is the only official provider of the HSK exam service in Minnesota.

The HSK is created by the Hanban under the European language assessment instrument standards and is used to measure the Mandarin proficiency of the test-takers and provide reference for future educational academies and employers. In October, the CIUMN will hold the next HSK for the general public.
