On January 24, 2014 the Confucius Institute at the University of Minnesota hosted its annual Chinese New Year celebration for Chinese language teachers. More than 30 teachers attended to help ring in the Year of the Horse on the University of Minnesota campus. (More.)

From May 14th to May 17th, the Confucius Institute held annual HSK testing, Chinese proficiency test, sessions for Orono High School, Westonka High School, Excelsior Elementary and Scenic Heights Elementary. (More.)
From April 29 to 30, the Capital Normal University’s Chamber Ensemble visited Confucius Institute’s two Confucius classrooms – Minnetonka High School and Patrick Henry High School, where the delegation offered eight traditional Chinese music workshops that explain the history of the music instruments, including pipa, erhu, Chinese flute and xun, and showcase some feature traditional Chinese music pieces. The high school students were put into amazement by the beauty and uniqueness of the traditional Chinese music.
On April 15th, the Confucius Institute at the University of Minnesota (CIUMN) held the annual China Day at the O’Shaughnessy Auditorium. More than 600 students from 8 high schools throughout Minnesota participated in the event.(More.)

Joan Brzezinski has been named executive director of the University’s China Center and Confucius Institute. Joan has been the interim director of the China Center while serving in her permanent position as director of the Confucius Institute. (More.)
The University of Minnesota - Crookston campus opened a Confucius Institute satellite office on January 28 with a Chinese New Year event that included a dance performance and dinner.
The University of Minnesota - Duluth campus' new Confucius Institute will offer programs and resources to educators in the region, especially in K-12 schools. Joan Brzezinski, Director and Qijie Li, Assistant Director attended the grand opening on January 21.

The beautiful and vibrant culture of China will be brought to the University of Minnesota, Crookston by the Chinese American Association of Minnesota (CAAM) Chinese Dance Theater on Jan. 28. The dance theater will perform in Kiehle Auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m. Preceding the dance performance, there will be a Lunar New Year Dinner served at 6 p.m.
